Plantex S.A., based in Costa Rica, is a producer of Aralia (Fatsia japonica), Leather Fern (Rumohora adiantiformis) and Catpalm (Chamaedorea cataractarum).

The plantations are on the slopes of the Poás and Barva volcanoes, located on in the mountains around Costa Rica's Central Valley around San Jose, Alajuela and Heredia.

PLANTEX PRODUCTS

The cool climate, the volcanic soil and the right altitude above sea level are the main factors that contribute to the high quality production by Plantex of the 3 species of leafy greens.
Aralia (Fatsia japonica), Plantex's main product, has very special characteristics in terms of color, texture and grading of various sizes. Also, the fresh product remains good in the vase for quite some time . All this ensures that the product can be perfectly used for various types of bouquets and other forms of floral arrangements.

SUSTAINABLE

Plantex continuously invests in research and development to further improve their products. During the production process, the principle of "precision agriculture" is applied. Programs for continuous disease monitoring have led to a significant reduction in the use of agrochemicals and increased use of products with low environmental impact, including the use of bee populations and other pollinating insects and the use of beneficial bacteria. This has improved the agricultural ecosystem in the plantations and shows that they are very conscious of environmentally friendly production.

In the area of nutrition, Plantex works very closely with scientists at the Research Center of the University of Costa Rica (CIA). Joint efforts have been made to determine precise nutritional requirements for the different crops and optimize fertilizer and water use, including the development and application of a drip irrigation system.

Even after the product is picked, Plantex has implemented several processes for continuous hydration of the cut greens, cleaning of the individual leaves, schematic sorting of the bunches for optimal presentation and finally packaging in biodegradable "Royal Greens" boxes.
